Who is Khairul Bashar?

Khairul Bashar — software engineer from Tangail, Bangladesh

Khairul Bashar is a software engineer from Tangail, Bangladesh, and the founder of Contextser. He was born on 15 March 2004 in Hatia, a village in Kalihati, Tangail, and still lives there. He holds no computer science degree. As a teenager he worked as a mason's helper and saved 4,600 taka, which bought his first computer, and he taught himself to code from YouTube and Google because there was no tuition, no mentor, and nobody nearby who wrote software. He built his first website about six months later. His first ten freelance bids were rejected; the eleventh became his first paid job, for 500 taka. He now builds web applications, mobile apps, desktop software and AI features for clients in Bangladesh and abroad, and publishes free roadmaps and learning resources in Bengali for developers starting where he did.

Where it started

Khairul Bashar was born on 15 March 2004 into an ordinary middle-class family in a village in Tangail. He saw a computer for the first time in class five, in his school's computer lab. Typing on a keyboard and watching letters appear on screen is, in his own telling, the moment that decided things.

There was no money for a computer at home. As a teenager he worked as a mason's helper and saved 4,600 taka, which bought his first machine. Everything he learned, he learned on it.

How he learned

There was no tuition, no mentor, and nobody nearby who wrote code. The internet was the only teacher available — YouTube and Google. He watched videos and wrote code until two or three in the morning, got it wrong, and tried again.

About six months in, he built his first website: some text and a few buttons. Then he started bidding for freelance work. The first ten bids were rejected. The eleventh became his first paid job, for 500 taka.

What he does now

Khairul Bashar now works as a full-time software engineer, building web applications, mobile apps, desktop software and AI/ML features for clients in Bangladesh and abroad.

He is the founder of Contextser, which builds software for businesses. Alongside that he publishes free roadmaps and learning resources for new developers on this site — because when he was learning, none of it existed in Bengali.

What he works with

On the web he works with React, Next.js, Node.js and TypeScript — e-commerce, SaaS, dashboards. On mobile, React Native and Flutter; on desktop, Electron and Python. The AI work covers chatbots, automation and data analysis.

The work is fully remote, and the clients are both inside Bangladesh and outside it. He works in Bengali and English.

Others of the same name

Several well-known people in Bangladesh are called Khairul Bashar. One is a retired army officer; another is an actor, whose name is written খায়রুল বাসার in Bengali, with স. English transliteration collapses the two names into one spelling; Bengali keeps them apart.

This page is about none of them. The person described here is a software engineer in Tangail, born in 2004, and the founder of Contextser.
